some serious saving, you could find yourself tying the knot in one of these celebrity-favoured retreats. Here are just a few to inspire you…
Skibo Castle, Scotland
Host to Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s wedding in 2000, and Ashley Judd’s wedding in 2001, this 12th century Scottish castle is a celeb favourite. The castle sits nestled in 7,500 acres of forested estate, and is a secluded place in which to hold your nuptials.
The castle has ornate reception rooms, luxurious bathrooms and a spa. A kilted bagpipe player awakens guests on the terrace at 8am – just one of the traditional quirks of this magical castle.
Skibo Castle is also the perfect place to spend your honeymoon. Currently operating as a members-only country club, there are numerous facilities in place such as swimming pools, golf, tennis, badminton, rowing, canoeing, horse riding, archery and mountain biking.
Windsor Guildhall, England
This beautiful, historic building was where Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles tied the knot in 2005. Later that year, Elton john and his partner David Furnish also chose the guildhall for their civil partnership.
The building dates from 1687 and was designed by Sir Thomas Fiddes. However, as Fidde died before its completion, Sir Christopher Wren oversaw the rest of the project. Lined with Portland stone pillars, the Guildhall’s exterior is an elegant nod to classic English architecture. The interior is just as stylish, with grand portraits, ornate decorative features and sparkling chandeliers.
Claridge’s, Mayfair
David Walliams, Samantha Janus and Rachael Stevens all held their weddings at Claridge’s. The luxury art deco hotel is set in the heart of Mayfair, and has hosted state banquets as well as Royal receptions. The five-star hotel has over a century of glamour in its history, with guests including Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant and Bing Crosby.
There are many beautiful events rooms for hire. Most notable are the Ballroom Reception, a stunning 1930s design with marble and mirrors, and the French Salon with its airy, Rococo glamour.
The Sher Bagh Resort, India
In 2010, Katy Perry and Russell Brand had their Hindu wedding ceremony in the Sher Bagh resort. Located in northern India, the luxurious tented camp is a ten-minute drive to the Ranthambore National Park.
Each luxury tent has a bedroom, bathroom, veranda, hot water and electricity. The resort offers massages, continental and Indian cuisine, room service, a bar and talks from conservationists.
Although the resort was originally designed for the Maharaja of Jodhpur’s hunting expeditions, the nearby park is now one of the country’s largest tiger sanctuaries. The park is also home to wild boar, leopards, sloths and hyenas.
However, due to the proximity of the reserve, guests at the resort must not play music after 10pm or set off fireworks. The local authorities, who do not want the tigers distressed by loud noises, even warned Katy and Russell to follow the rules…or else!
Lime Wood House Hotel, England
Sophie Dahl and singer Jamie Cullum chose this Regency country house for their wedding in 2010. Surrounded by verdant parkland, this five-star hotel was originally a hunting lodge in the 13th century and is set in the heart of the New Forest.
The main house consists of 16 bedrooms, classically designed sitting rooms, a bar, an informal eatery and a billiard room. The owners of Lime Wood House have managed to renovate the building whilst keeping its historic charm.
